A new study found that the average student loan for New Mexico college students was $21,314.
While that amount can nearly buy a new Honda Civic, it's the second-lowest average student debt of any state in the country.
In LendEDU's annual student loan debt report, New Mexico was ranked No. 50 among U.S. states and Washington, D.C. Only Utah had an average student loan debt lower than New Mexico, at $18,810.
